The Further Adventures of Gussie Mae in America
Thrilling! Exhilarating! Triumphant!
Three words to describe our first production in Charleston. It was a one-night only performance of this one-woman tour-de-force that was written and performed by New York-based performance artist Letitia Guillory. The show was co-sponsored by the College of Charleston Black Student Union and performed at the historic downtown Sottile Theatre. Music, movement, and prose accentuated Guillory’s pointed characterizations and kept the audience enthralled. It was an enchanted evening and a perfect beginning for Breaking the Wall Productions!!

History
Jeffery Jelks – Artistic Director/Producer. Jeffery is dedicated to showcasing the work of emerging artists of color through Breaking the Wall Productions.
His directorial credits include: The and Mae both with Ms. Guillory, In the Dark with the Walter Lees, Playin’ the Wall, The Box, Watermelon, Git it While It’s Hot, Daddy’s Home, Imperfection Flawed, Curious Child, ‘Night Mother, Friend of the Family, Brussel Sprouts, Project Mourning, Arrested Cosmos, Monsters, and Eden. He has served as Creative Consultant on Grim Foster’s Love Songs and Brown Gal’s Rising.
Jeffery was chosen as a participant in the Lincoln Center Directors Lab in NYC. He is currently working on an Arts Management degree from the College of Charleston. He has also studied acting with Academy Award winning actress Sandy Dennis and Tony Award winning actress Uta Hagen and directing with Bill Alton.

Hurricane House depicts the story of a family coping with an unimaginable tragedy. The audience accompanies them on their journey to transcend the grief and adjust to life after the horrible misfortune. Their lives take an unexpected turn when an approaching hurricane restores their faith and helps to rebuild the family.
Brussel Sprouts is an irreverent comedy that showcases the antics of over-the-top drag queen Dissonia and her mixed brood of wacky, tacky friends, and neighbors. They all assemble in her apartment one evening for lemon meringue pie, purging, wild party games, rag dolls, and a rousing dance finale of the Electric Slide! You’ll think twice before eating another brussel sprout.
